Why do people throw out things that they know are recyclable? Why does a smiley face on an energy bill change usage habits? What effect does labeling a trashcan "landfill" instead of "garbage" have on behavior? What would happen if you made a recycling slot machine?
Learn about how insights from behavioral economics and cognitive psychology can help us nudge people toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly habits. We'll spend some time learning about key findings from behavior change research, and then apply this knowledge to design challenges relevant to the Seattle urban environment. No advanced knowledge required.
Students, professionals and design enthusiasts are all encouraged to attend. No advanced knowledge or preparation is required to attend any of the workshops.

As part of the 2012 Seattle Design Festival, IxDA Seattle and Puget Sound SIGCHI are offering three workshops on Saturday, September 22. Workshops will take place at the Cornish College of the Arts in the South Lake Union neighborhood.
Attend one, two or all three workshops. Discounted rates available for students and those attending all three workshops. A portion of the proceeds go to support Design in Public, a multidisciplinary nonprofit organization that promotes the role of design in improving our community.
