You, Me and the Tree
**Well-Known and Loved Music and Stories Recorded Live at Firehouse**
three free performances by local violinist and storyteller Swil Kanim

After decades of performing at hundreds of events in Bellingham and around the country, local violinist and storyteller Swil Kanim and his media crew will digitally record his stories and songs before a live audience.  The resulting recordings will be published on a CD entitled "You, Me and the Tree".

The event will feature new and familiar stories and composition music, presented from a fresh perspective.

Swil Kanim, a member of the Lummi Tribe, overcame the effects of trauma and depression by using music and art to express himself honorably.  He reaches multi-cultural and multi-generational audiences with his message that through honorable self-expression, the wounds of today's society can be healed.

Once the CD is released (September 2012), people can benefit from Swil Kanim's songs and stories not only by attending local events but also by listening to high-quality recordings.

The CD will be a source of funds to further the mission of HonorWorks, a 501c3 nonprofit corporation whose mission is to create and ignite the potential for honor among all people by encouraging audiences to express themselves through music and fine arts.  HonorWorks, formerly known as the Swil Kanim Foundation, was founded by Swil Kanim and like-minded friends and supporters in 2009.

HonorWorks plans to reach a wider audience in the upcoming year, and revenue from the CD will supplement grants and private donations.

The performance and recordings are made possible with a grant from First Nations Composer Initiative.

*Note: Pictures and videos will be taken of the performance and audience during the event. Please let us know as soon as possible if this is a problem so that accommodations can be made. Otherwise, we will have consent forms for you to sign at the door during check-in.
