Ojai Film Society and Ojai Art Center present: Sing Street
THIS IS THE SECOND OF THEMATICALLY RELATED FILMS ON CONSECUTIVE DAYS AT THE OJAI ART CENTER THEATER, BROUGHT TO YOU BY OJAI FILM SOCIETY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OJAI ART CENTER.
Sing Street is the best film about being young, gifted and Irish since The Commitments. A buoyant celebration of the power of music, this is the third delightfully entertaining musical romance from John Carney, who also wrote and directed Once and Begin Again. Set in the 1980s, this lightly comical film is packed with fabulous songs, both real hits from the period and wonderful original numbers. And it's vividly performed by a fresh cast. Its a story about dreams, rebelliousness, art and young love, as well as a loving homage to the music of the early 1980s. Joy is the film's reason for being, and joy wins the day, says Jeffrey Overstreet of Looking Closer. Good-hearted, charming, winning little movie with doses of genuine magic -- and an authentic sense of time and place and youthfulness. It might restore your faith in the musical film.
