ill.Gates Bio:
A Toronto-based composer, performer and educator. Over the past 16 years, he has established a global fan base and a reputation as one of the most dy- namic electronic music artists around. He regularly tours across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
Gates has headlined at such festivals as Burning Man, Shambala, the World Electronic Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. His first full-length release, Autopirate (Muti Music, 2008) charted and continues to sell strongly. His upcoming triple album The ill.Methodology and accompa- nying online course are highly anticipated. Gates was re- cently selected as one of the Next 100 by URB Magazine.
Many of his contemporaries cite ill.Gates as a key artistic influence and inspiration in their music. While on tour, Gates frequently teaches workshops to grateful and attentive audiences, in which he shares his highly effective approach to producing quality finished music as well as in- sights into the mentality and strategies necessary to succeed in the music business.
R/D Bio:
Entranced, nearly basking in the radiance of R/D's sound, audiences are swallowed up in his vibrant melodies, pounding beats, and zealous dedication to the craft. Dripping with angst and desire, R/D's compositions can be at times dizzyingly beautiful, heartbreaking in their melancholy and dancefloor-crushing all at once. With artists clamoring to share bills and secure remixes, his edgy and experimental sound is finding new ears nationwide and beyond, elevating him from L.A. indie auteur to full-fledged underground sensation.
A transplant from Middle America to the teeming sonic landscape of southern California, R/D was first a devotee of the post-punk aesthetic, before being introduced to the underground dance music scene in his teensfully soaking in the electronic music of the era, and discovering the allure of DJing. Becoming a part of the scene meant throwing his own parties, promoting shows, and cultivating his own unique sound.
Embracing the deliberate grandeur of the nascent bass movement, R/D emerged with an entire catalog of big, brash bass and lush, symphonic compositions. Patient and passionate, White's sound moves both body and soul. Not content to rework straightforward dance or hip-hop tracks, R/D's eclecticism lead him to todays most cutting edge artists, resulting in massively successful remixes of Swedish songstress Fever Ray ("I'm Not Done"?) and James Blake's earth-shattering "Wilhelm Scream" both of which landed him high atop Hype Machine's charts.
R/D has recently been tapped to join tours with The Glitch Mob, Bassnectar, VibeSquaD, and Beats Antique, and 2012 festival appearances include Coachella, Electric Forest, Lightening in a Bottle, and Boonstock. His "Bay Crush" album released 12/5/11 debuted at #1 on the Beatport Glitch-Hop chart, and he received a nod from North Face with his music featured as the sweeping soundtrack to an extreme snowboarding video. His follow-up album is planned for Fall 2012.
