SLFF 2016 - Festival Opening Night Gala
Join us for SLFF Opening Night Gala 2016 to jump start the 8th Annual Seattle Latino Film Festival. This will be a wonderful night to celebrate Latino cultures through the beautiful art of film.

Every year the Seattle Latino Film Festival picks a guest country to be represented at our opening night, this year it is the beautiful country of Venezuela. This year's film Opening the Festival at the wonderful Seattle Art Museum is ' Dauna: Gone with the River".  This is the beginning of our ten day festivals that showcases films from dozens of Latino and Hispanic countries all over the world, and all of the unique cultures and people.

Every year we hope to achieve the standards set by our mission statement: To bring audiences and filmmakers together for a cultural experience and to support the art of filmmaking as a part of Hispanic culture globally. To reflect the multicultural perspectives that our community represents and enhance a cross cultural appreciation to Hispanic and non Hispanic of our cinema.

Your ticket will include the presentation of the film at the Seattle Art Museum and the After Party at Club Sur in SoDo district  that will include light appetizers  .

About the movie :

Sipnosis in English : For Dauna, life on the Orinoco delta cultivated a strong curiosity for what lay beyond the river. Her natural talent for language and learning was always nurtured by her family and Father Julio. Tarcisio, her childhood sweetheart, also patiently supports her, but doesnt know how to deal with social pressure in the Warao community. Dauna is sure of her love for Tarcisio but fears he will succumb to what tradition ...dictates, thwarting her ambition for academic development. The ever-present sepia river symbolises the divergence and convergence experienced throughout the story. Exuberant cinematography accentuates this sensitive representation of culture as a live organism in need of constant evolution.

Sipnosis in Spanish: Dauna.
