Indie opera company Vertical Player Repertory (VPR) celebrates its history on the Brooklyn waterfront with Water Music, an outdoor performance of excerpts from past VPR productions with a waterfront theme. Free to the public and staged on the panoramic Granite Prospect at Brooklyn Bridge Park, the evening moves from the explosive world of Brooklyn longshoremen in Bolcom's A View From the Bridge to the dark, hypnotic atmosphere of Puccini's Il Tabarro, and from there to the shimmering illusion of nighttime Venice in Offenbach's fantastical Les contes d'Hoffmann.
