Point Richmond Jazz presents the Price-Patzner featuring Evan Price, violin & Lewis Patzner, cello
Evan Price and Lewis Patzner will bring there creative MOJO to classical repertoire and original compositions and some familiar a jazz standards, as Evan Price,violin and Lewis Patzner, cello, are arguably the most versatile string players in the Bay Area.
Evan Price is steadily becoming one of the most respected jazz violinists of his generation. A native of Detroit, MI, his musical background includes some earnest dues-paying in a variety of genres. He has performed with some of the masters of fiddle lore Stephane Grappelli, Johnny Frigo, Claude Fiddler Williams, Johnny Gimble, Buddy Spicher, and Vassar Clementsas well as a diverse array of pop icons from Stevie Wonder and Led Zeppelins Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to comedian, Steven Wright.
Evan is a ten-year veteran of the world-renowned, paradigm-shifting jazz ensemble, the Turtle Island Quartet. During his tenure in Turtle Island, Evan gave over five hundred performances in concert venues from Latvia to Australia and had the opportunity to collaborate with many musical luminaries, such as Cuban clarinetist Paquito DRivera, and pianists Dr. Billy Taylor and Kenny Barron. He recorded five CDs with Turtle Island, two of whichFour + 4 and A Love Supreme: The Legacy of John Coltrane received GRAMMY awards in 2006 and 2008 in the Classical Crossover category. Evan is well known in the Bay Area for his performances with The Hot Club of San Francisco of which he has been a member since 1998.
Lewis Patzner born, raised and currently residing in Oakland CA, received a B.M. in cello performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins in 2007, where he studied with Amit Peled and graduated with the Grace Claggett Ranney award in chamber music. He is a founding member of Judgement Day, described by Strings Magazine as "a master class in the seemingly boundless possibilities of signal-processed, electronic string music and a testament to the band's creativity."
Lewis has also has toured as a side musician with Tim Kasher, Mates of State, Pinback, dredg, and Margot and the Nuclear So-and-So's. As a session musician he has recorded with Slash, Pete Yorn, Taking Back Sunday, Low Anthem, Two Gallants, The Matches, and others. A dedicated classical musician, Lewis performs locally with many groups, including the The Musical Art Quintet, Classical Revolution, Kit Eakle's DjangoSphere and the Jazz Mafia. In September of 2011 he cofounded the Town Quartet.
