The Boy with a Thorn in His Side: The Legacy of Morrissey's Melancholy, An Illustrated Lecture with Dianca London
Date: Sunday, September 25th
Time: 7pm
Admission: $12
Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY

Whether it be the brooding lyricism of The Smiths or the far from sanguine anthems that defined his solo career, Steven Patrick Morrissey is undeniably synonymous with melancholy. First expressed in Hand in Glove and more recently in his debut novel The List of the Lost, his aesthetic of discontentment and its legacy is rooted in a lineage of poets and storytellers whose Byronic romanticism paved the way for the Son and Heir and his musical successors. This lecture will trace the origins of Morrissey's heart-wrenching narratives, its influence, and the way that it continues to shape literature, music, and art. Join us for this illustrated lecture as we survey what made Moz the icon that he is today.

Dianca London is a Brooklyn based music critic and writer. She earned her MA in English and her MA in Humanities from Arcadia University and her MFA in Fiction from The New School. She is the former prose editor of LIT Magazine. Her work has been featured in Lenny Letter, the Toast, Obsidian, The Village Voice, and elsewhere. She is a Kimbilio Fiction Fellow, VONA Voices alumna, and a Pushcart Prize nominee.
