Cabaret
Cabaret is the story of the flighty Sally Bowles, a nightclub singer in 1930s Berlin who is drawn into a love affair with a sensitive, yet very naive, Englishman. Originally set to be directed by Gene Kelly before Bob Fosse took over, the film is remembered for its sharp, shiny musical numbers and incisive cuts between the cabaret and the world outside, with Nazism on the move. Considered one of the greatest musicals of all time, and certainly the best musical of the 1970s, it won eight Academy Awards including Best Actress for Liza Minnelli, who was literally born to play this part.
