Renegade Theatre Experiment presents IMPERIAL FIZZ by Brian Parks
IMPERIAL FIZZ
NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
Written by Brian Parks
Directed by Laura Long

"IMPERIAL FIZZ generates a strange eerie powerbrilliant poetic contentthere is no American writer more thoughtful, in an explosive and surreally comic way, than Brian Parks." Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman

"Touche! A bit like Noel Coward on speed, Brian Parks' thirties-style two-hander is a tour de force of lightning exchanges of exquisitely barbed wit between a couple who fill the silence as they wait for well, what indeed?" Nick Awde, The Stage

"Great minds drink alike in IMPERIAL FIZZ, a cocktail of 1930s movie with a dash of Sartre's Huis Clos and Beckett bittersas we've come to expect from Brian Parks, the author of AMERICANA ABSURDUM, this is witty and literate theatre. " Lynn Gardener, The Guardian

A seemingly carefree high-society couple swill cocktails and exchange witty banter and pointed barbs as they sing and dance to melodies transmitting from a classic RCA radio in their swanky art deco apartment. They are persistently and comfortably tipsy and obviously relish a (mostly) good-natured verbal joust. They are awaiting the arrival of a very special guest, though gradually it becomes apparent that behind the brittle smiles, the free-flowing cocktails and the banter batter back and forth like a dazzling, gold-plated ping pong ball that there is something very wrong. Their world, that at once seems straight out of Noel Coward, veers towards a darker, Beckettian landscape as the music on the radio turns to static, thunder claps in the distance and the couple's bright smiles are stretched to the breaking point with anxiety with the imminent arrival of their special guest.
