Richmond Area Hoarding Seminar
Would you know what to do if one of your tenants was hoarding? Hoarding is defined as the compulsive accumulation of items and the inability to discard of them, even if they have no value.
Because knowledge of hoarding is in its infancy, complete knowledge of the disorder is limited. We do know that hoarding has been classified as a disability and added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disabilities or the DSM-5. We are aware that the effects that come from hoarding result in health and safety violations that affect not only the hoarder, but also neighbors, staff, and the property.
Because hoarding is a disability, the hoarder is entitled to protection under the Virginia Fair Housing Law. What does this mean to a housing provider, family member or anyone who may be dealing with a "hoarder"?
We encourage you to join us at this hoarding seminar, where we will share information that is helpful to providers, family members and anyone who has a tenant, family member, or friend who is a hoarder.
