10 AM - BOB ALTSCHULER - Fill-in and Tag Lick Essentials
These licks are fundamental for bluegrass banjo breaks and backup, and your choices can energize your playing. Bob will guide you hands-on through an array of licks, their functions, ways to apply them, lick substitution, and their use as improvisation building blocks. A detailed handout contains class content plus lots more to work on at home. (Beg-Intermediate)

11:30 AM - HILARY HAWKE - Clawhammer Banjo Workshop
Get the Claw Hand moving!  In this workshop you will learn how to use your right hand to play the bum-ditty, pick out melodies, and play good clawhammer!  Learn two tunes that you can jam with others and add to your repertoire.  You will walk away with a packet of materials that we cover in the workshop along with recommendations of bands and music to listen to!

1:30 PM - LORRAINE HAMMOND - Old Time Banjo for Singers
Before that pesky Appalachian dulcimer came on the scene, the banjo was a ballad accompaniment instrument of choice in the Southern Mountains. For many of us it still is!  Lorraine will teach song accompaniment techniques and at least one traditional ballad and one mountain song--more if time allows.  Adv. Beg/Int

3 PM - GLENN NELSON - Applying Music Theory to well known licks and ideas.  We will focus on ways to give a new voice to old licks and phrases, give an old song new life and put freshness and excitement into your playing!   We'll look at some fiddle and vocal tunes and how to morph them into a different mode or genre.  Single string, Scruggs and Melodic styles will be used.  We will also cover making your practice time more productive.
