Oxblood presented by NEW NOISE and AIR Serenbe
July 22-24, 2016 at 6pm, Fri-Sun Deer Hollow at Serenbe
Critically-acclaimed New Orleans theater ensemble NEW NOISE teams up with Atlanta-area residency program AIR Serenbe to present Oxblood:
---------- THE PRODUCTION ----------
Oxblood is a panoramic outdoor performance about land, labor, and home in the contemporary South. Estranged sisters Rose and Laurel reunite in rural Georgia after their centuries-old family home burns to the ground. While Rose's husband Jacob loses himself in the scarred farmland, the two sisters grapple over its uncertain future. Oxblood unfolds in a fearless blend of dialogue, dance, and sweeping choral music. With rich, keening harmonies composed by Brendan Connelly, and deeply intimate, unflinching choreography by Angelle Hebert, Oxblood unearths the tangled histories buried deep in the land and asks what happens to us as we struggle to leave that land behind.
Oxblood is being developed and presented in the Atlanta metro area as part of a 2016 Project Residency with AIR Serenbe.
THE PERFORMANCE LAST APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR AND TAKES PLACE OUTDOORS (SEATING PROVIDED)
---------- THE COMPANIES ----------
NEW NOISE is a theater ensemble from New Orleans, LA. We create visually-intense, physically-demanding original work through collaborative processes and long-term partnerships with writers, designers and performers. NEW NOISE works to advance ensemble practice through quarterly community workshops with master artists and through the presentation and development of works-in-progress by local ensembles. Oxblood is the company's sixth original full-length production since 2008. In addition to Oxblood, NEW NOISE is currently developing Jubilee, a performative feast set in Alabama's Mobile Bay.
