Something's Gotta Be Arranged
In 2014, veteran itinerant blues man Paul Geremia suffered a debilitating stroke. Since then he has been unable to perform and earn a living. While his medical costs have been taken care of, Paul requires full time assistance with day-to-day living. He currently resides with a long-time friend in Providence.
To assist with Paul's expenses, a benefit concert will be held on September 11 in Tucson, AZ. Proclaimed one of the finest blues artists by Rolling Stone magazine -- his old friend Bonnie Raitt recently acknowledged Geremia as an early influence on her career. The event, named Something's Gotta Be Arranged after one of Geremia's most popular original tunes, is being organized by Paul Domingue, a long-time friend and fan of the artist. Domingue says funds raised from the concert will go directly to Geremia to aid in his living expenses. For fans and supporters who cannot attend the benefit, donations can be made through You Caring at https://www.youcaring.com/paul-geremia-590922. The concert will be held at Monterey Court Studio, Gallery and Cafe, 505 W. Miracle Mile Rd, Tucson, AZ 85705 with performances from 4 to 10 PM by The French Quarter, Wally Lawder and Acoustic Sky, and other special guest artists.
Considered a legendary blues music artist, Geremia was born in 1944 in Providence, RI and first became known as part of the New England and Greenwich Village music scenes during the folk revival of the 1960s, when he and other young music fans were rediscovering the pioneering founders of rural folk blues like Son House, Skip James and Robert Johnson. He began performing in 1966 and recorded 11 albums during his career, starting with 1968s Just Enough on the Folkways Records label. His final release was 2011s Love My Stuff on Red House Records with whom he had his longest association. Dedicated to the rural folk blues tradition, Geremia exclusively played and performed on acoustic guitar and never recorded with an electric guitar. Pauls version of Get Right To Church, was the opening track on Preaching The Blues: The Music of Mississippi Fred McDowell (Telarc Records) which earned a Grammy Award nomination. His two Red House releases, Self Portrait In Blues and Gambling Woman Blues, were nominated for W.C. Handy Awards.
