Doug Carn West Coast Organ Band
Four jazz virtuosos explore the unlimited possibilities of the Jazz Organ combo with two tenor saxophone voices!

In a career dating back to the 1960s, piano and organ master, Doug Carn, has released eight solo albums and played alongside such artists as Stanley Turrentine, Shirley Horn, Melvin Van Peebles, Earth, Wind & Fire and Nat Adderley as well as appearing more recently on albums by Cindy Blackman and Wallace Roney. His early recordings on the Black Jazz label combined a looser feel with a political mood that emphasized peace, love and independence, according to the website jazzwax.com. Born in New York City and raised in St. Augustine, Florida, Doug played organ in church and graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. He studied oboe at Jacksonville State where he later taught for many years. Downbeat Magazine praised his composing and arranging as well as his ensemble playing by declaring that the most attractive component of the groups music is Dougs deft orchestrations which give it a much larger sound that its instrumentation would suggest.

Howard Wiley, Tenor Saxophonist has recorded and performed with the likes of
Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Lauryn Hill, Lavay Smith and Amy Winehouse as well
as receiving numerous awards and accolades from the Thelonious Monk Institute. He is one of the top players in the Bay Area Jazz scene, echoing Coleman Hawkins and Dexter Gordon.

Teodross Avery, Tenor Saxophonist has performed in the world famous Bluenote Jazz Club, NYC with the Cedar Walton Sextet, which featured Art Farmer on trumpet. He also played in groups that either were led by or included names such as Hank Jones, Ben Riley, Harold Mabern, Betty Carter, The Roy Hargrove Big Band and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He signed his first major recording contract aged 19 in the mid-1990s and his playing maturity is evidenced on Horace Silvers Peace from the My Spirit album.

Deszon Claiborne, Drummer, hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, studied with
Billy Cobham. He has worked with his long time mentor Doug Carn previously and
performed with many artists such as Angela Bofil, Les McCann, Dr. Lonnie Smith Boz
Scaggs, Donald Harrison, Ernie Watts , Tom Scott, Hueston Person Stanley Jordan
and Jovan Jackson.
