Easy Waist Corset
Ever wanted to make your own corset, but didn't know where to start? Do you have a creative idea for a corset, but don't have the skills to make it work? This workshop will teach you the following techniques:
-How to measure and size a corset for your body (or someone else's!) -Cutting and marking. -Choosing a good underlining for corsetry, and how to flatline it to the outside fabric. -Putting in a busk (for intermediate stitchers). -Different ways to put in boning channels, depending on your experience level. -How to set grommets. -Using piping and binding to finish an edge. -How to properly lace and tighten a corset.
At the end of the workshop everyone should have a finished piece! Students are encouraged to bring a sewing machine that they know how to use, and their personal sewing kit if they have one. The basic materials cost will include all the bones, a fabric lining, grommets, and a grommeting kit to take home. You can upgrade that at the workshop if you want to put in a busk front, or wish to use a premium corset fabric.
The class will move fairly quickly, so all students should know how to thread a sewing machine, and how to sew a straight line. We well have a refresher on how to back stitch, and how to change a needle. This class is inclusive of all body types and genders.
Cost of the workshop is $105.00, plus a $40.00 materials fee. There is discount for those that sign up before June 24th. Space is extremely limited.
Instructor Sasha Vermel has been making corsets for 16 years. She was taught corsetry techniques by both theatrical costume, and retail fashion professionals. When she isn't teaching, Sasha now designs custom bridal wear, large scale art installation pieces, and sews product design samples.
