You may know Shilpi from her New York Times bestselling debut, Secret Daughter, which has sold more than a million copies worldwide in over 30 countries and languages and is based on her time volunteering in an Indian orphanage. An advisor on the Childrens Defense Fund and a patron of Childhaven International, Shilpi holds an MBA from Stanford University.
Her second novel, The Golden Son, is about Anil Patel, the first of his family to go to college. It is a story of family, responsibility, love, honor, tradition, and identity, in which two childhood friendsa young doctor and a newly married bridemust balance the expectations of their culture and their families with the desires of their own hearts.
Shobha Rao is the author of the debut story collection "An Unrestored Woman." Shobha moved to the US from India at the age of seven. She is the winner of the 2014 Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Fiction, and her story Kavitha and Mustafa was chosen by TC Boyle for inclusion in the Best American Short Stories 2015.
