The New York Empire Comedy Arts Festival: Heady Tonic
The New York Empire Comedy Arts Festival brings comedic acts from across several disciplines together for one week in June to celebrate the variety and diversity of comedy. From June 25th through June 30th, audiences can experience the best and most cutting edge improv, musical, sketch, stand-up, storytelling, and clowning acts that New York, LA, and Montreal have to offer. The NYECAF is the place to see the best in boundary pushing comedy. www.empirecomedyfestival.com
It was a common tradition during early Twentieth Century: folks would flock to small, dark theaters sprinkled through out the sordid underbelly of Old New York and they would fluff their humor and perception with turpentine that moonlighted as wine, and laugh their cares and troubles away at whatever vaudeville act, sketch comedy or theatrical escape that was available that night. It's in that spirit that we present Heady Tonic -- a loose collection of fun, dark, rambunctious sketch comedy. performed by eclectic, gifted actors and comedians; scribed by two perversely witted writers; directed by an out of work hack... naturally.
