Exhibition On Screen, which brings viewers in over 40 countries into the most talked-about art exhibits and collections today, presents Renoir: Revered and Reviled. The film was shot at the painters home in France, and at the Philadelphia Barnes Foundation, with its extraordinary collection of 181 Renoir works. While Pierre-Auguste Renoir is known and loved for his impressionist paintings of Paris, in later years the painter grew tired of this style and changed course. This stunning film examines Renoirs obsession with painting voluptuous nude women, and why it provokes such extreme reactions right up to today. But what may surprise many is that among the many artists who were clearly influenced by Renoirs late work were the two giants of the 20th century - Picasso and Matisse.

For me, a painting must be a pleasant thing, joyous and pretty - yes, pretty. There are too many unpleasant things in life for us to fabricate still more. - Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
