But, in an era where information is everywhere, surely making big decisions like deciding whether one is hungry or not should be a piece of cake! Who would have guessed that the struggle to choose an item on the pizzeria menu can reveal so much about the daily struggle to find and act on ones voice.

Seventeen-year-old Joey is waiting at the Oakland airport, coming home after a life-changing European vacation. Her mom, a native of Belize, is picking her up. But when Joey's mom greets her with rapid-fire Spanglish, Joey's perplexed. The mother she knows was born and raised in the Caribbean. This woman is clearly Mexican, or pretending to be. Locked in a conversation that circles like a Mexican Hat Dance, Joey is about to discover how Telenovelas changed her mother's life.

She's tired of people telling her to jump on the 'date white men' train and supremely annoyed by liberal white families adopting rainbow kids. But wait a second, her Mom is white, and she grew up with white people. Is she racist? Is she a hater of true love? Dammit if these lines around race, relationships and love ain't blurry.
