Steve Oliver Ranch | Warnecke Archives Tour
Tour of Oliver Ranch in Geyserville, CA followed by a lunch, wine tasting and private tour at the Warnecke house and archives in Healdsburg, CA

On this morning walk in the gentle, wooded hills of Alexander Valley, youll encounter one-of-a-kind installations by Ann Hamilton, Richard Serra, Andy Goldsworthy, Martin Puryear, and other world-renowned artists commissioned to endow this wine country landscape with their creative vision.

Your tour guide will be none other than ranch owner Steve Oliver. A passionate supporter of the arts, Mr. Oliver has served on the board of the Smithsonians Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. If youd like to learn more about Steve Oliver and his deep roots in the arts community  or about the remarkable evolution of Oliver Ranch  we recommend Steve Olivers bio on the California College of the Arts website, reading this article on SculpSite, or listening to an audio podcast on SculpCast.

Tours of this exclusive art preserve are granted solely to select, non-profit groups for use as fundraising benefits. The ranch donates all tours to the group hosting it. Your donation will go to the AIA Redwood Empire Scholarship which is dispursed yearly to local students studying architecture.

The tour covers approximately 2.5 miles with 600 feet of up and down elevation change. It can be compared to a light hike in the woods. Paths are unpaved, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. We regret that the tour is not wheelchair accessible.

The Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard has a history of contributing to Sonoma County arts and culture. Primarily developed by John Carl Warnecke, world-renowned architect, who built his architectural practice around summers at the ranch in order to be with his family and entertain world-class clients and friends. The property grew from its original 60 acres parcel along the River to current 265 acres through the purchase of adjacent ranches as they became available over the years. In 1983, John Carl Warnecke formed the Warnecke Institute of Art and Architecture to continue the ranchs rich history as a think tank for leading artists and architects around the world. The family architectural archives of three generations of architects is housed on the property and presents a valuable resource to art and architectural historians as well as a point of historical interest for Sonoma County residents and tourism. Notable projects by John Carl Warnecke include: Logan International Airport, Boston; Regency, Honolulu; Great Western, SF; Maples Pavillion, Bookstore, Postoffice, Cummings art Building, Stanford University; Lauinger Library, Georgetown University; Hawaii State Capital, Senate Office Building, Washington; American Hospital in Paris; Eternal Flame JFK Memorial, Arlington, etc.

We hope you will join us in experiencing these hidden treasures!
