PROGRAM:

ALLOY is a  fun and light-hearted piece and is Alisons choreographic debut. Alison and her friend Nora Brickman created the piece in its first form while they were studying at the Boston Conservatory. There, a teacher likened Nora and Alisons personalities to that of the coming together of basil & garlic, which inspired the title of the piece ALLOY. With the support of Ms Brickman, Alison then went on to extend the piece in 2012, when she started Alison Cook Beatty Dance.

LIFELINE is a romantic, yet disquieting piece supported by emotional string music by composer Karl Jenkins. The dancers come together, separate, and came together again. This pattern repeats in various forms throughout the work. One gets the sense they are (or were) a couple in love, but there is something wrong  something at stake. They seem driven together by desire but pulled apart by outside forces. The dancers travel throughout the space with swift leaps, swinging arms, and cascading lifts. There is a sense that they yearn to be together as their arms envelop one another, but this is not a joyful dance, and their struggle is clear as they lean away from one another and break free from each others grasp. Free, but full of yearning.
LIFELINE Review by Nellie Rainwater, Originally Posted to FitEngine.com

The breakdown of music and dance composition was discussed between both composer and choreographer on the 4 variations within the entire musical score
and compositional structure of dance. Becoming Another is about a couple, seen in the present time, and then in 3 stages of their lives together; young/yellow,  romantic/red, and old/ silver.

15 minute intermission

SHAKER LOOPS, World Premiere. Set to the music of John Adams Shaker Loops and inspired by the shaking of the stringed instruments and the days of dance of the Shaker Community, Ms. Cook-Beatty began researching the Shakers and improvising in the studio to the frenetic looping patterns of music. Although the Shaker community has many admirable characteristics, Alison was struck that they were not allowed to touch one another and were celibate, and their community thus died out. This piece is a story of a mother, a son, an outsider, and the community of Shakers that exile two Shakers who fall in love.

15 minute intermission,

MURMURATION premiered at The 14th Street Y in Manhattan in March 2016. This new work is highly influenced by the music Gli uccelli (The Birds) composed by Ottorino Respighi, and the different types of birds recognized within it, including the dove, hen, nightingale, cuckoo, and the aerial ballet of the starlings.

The program runs an hour and a half in total including intermissions.
During the intermissions on Sunday there will be a Silent Auction of items donated by local businesses and individuals from Milford, as well as a Q&A after the performance.
