My daughter Lily and friends with kids have inspired me to create art classes again. So here is a little info to share with you about my back ground.
- I graduated from the School of Art and Design at The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where I also taught art and coordinated art programs for children and adults in the community. I also use to spend the summers here in NYC painting abstract/expressionist portraits on the streets. You can see some of them here : http://art.tubbsgallery.com - This inspired some classes I developed. "Street Art and Mural Painting" and "Free your Mind Art" starting with ideas behind street graffiti and children's art to develop a more personal approach to art. "Modern Art History" is another class where participants created art following the timeline in each style of the Modern Art era. - Now, in Brooklyn (since 2003), I work as a freelancer creating scenery for films and commercials while occasionally volunteering at FBR to help save the world. I am happy and honored to have the opportunity again to teach at FBR. Its a wonderful thing to share and explore the creative process. For adult classes I try to facilitate the action, push aside the intimidation of a blank canvas and relentless the self critic, all for the purpose for drawing like a kid again. I think nurturing the kid within us all keeps us inspired and motivated. Since this is not a problem for young kids, I coordinate open sessions for the younger ones to nurture this free spirited approach, while they are still free spirited :)
It's going to be a blast!
See you soon,
Brian Tubbs, father to Lily (9mos)
