Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Italian immigrants, he began his musical career in the swing era of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. He found success as a solo artist after being signed by Columbia Records in 1943, becoming the idol of "bobby soxers." He released his first album, The Voice of Frank Sinatra, in 1946. During the early 1950s he turned to Las Vegas, Nevada where he became one of the best known performers of the time. In 1953 he received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the movie From Here to Eternity.

The Monday Blues Jazz Orchestra . . . founded in the late 1960's by employees of RCA's Astro-Electronics satellite division in East Windsor, NJ, has continuously entertained audiences with an ever-evolving mix of music up through the present day.
