On the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death, join us for a night of radical approaches to Shakespeare, including new films commissioned for this event, live performance, art and music. Presented by Art Secession Cabal.
Including:
"Volumnia" by Mikel Guillen (a film inspired by the character in Coriolanus), Canada/English.
"Moje Mleko"(My Milk) Ty Bess presents a nightmarish vision of Lady Macbeth in his film, mutilating the archetypes of both victim and manipulator. Poland/Polish w/subtitles.
A live performance/audio-visual collaboration by New Haven Theater Company co-founder Matthew Martin and filmmaker/photographer Jesse Richards (their first post-NHTC collaboration in 16 years), exploring the characters of Prospero, Coriolanus, King Richard II, Macbeth, Ulysses and Hamlet.
An as yet untitled film by Christopher Marsh exploring the moons of Uranus and the Shakespeare characters that each is named for.
A Shakespearean experimental/noise-music performance by Adam Malec.
A ritualistic performance called "Immortal Longings" by Ariel Kleinberg and Andrea Davina Clinton, inspired by the characters of Ophelia and Cleopatra.
"Anger Still in Motion"- Art series by Robin Woerner, inspired by the Starling of Henry IV Part 1, and the 1890 Starling release when in the spring of 1890, Shakespeare lover Eugene Schieffelin released 60 imported European Starlings into the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park. His vision was to populate the Garden with all 64 bird species in Shakespeare's work. The European Starling went on to become a massively invasive species in the US.
