Black Slate, the band that put UK Reggae and Lovers Rock on the map, influencing groups such as Steel Pulse, UB40, Aswad, Pato Banton, Maxi Priest and more Hailing from London, England, Black Slate are forerunners of The British Reggae scene of the 1970's and 80's, paving the way for the likes of English reggae acts such as Steel Pulse, UB40, Maxi Priest, Aswad, Pato Banton and more. Formed in London in 1972, the band began by backing many of the legendary Jamaican singers performing in England. Soon after, Black Slate wrote blazing original hits like Mind Your Motion, Sticksman and Amigo, which reached the Top Ten Singles Charts, going #1 all over Europe and New Zealand. As part of what is considered Reggae's Golden Age, their unique Roots, Dub and Lovers Rock Reggae sound reflected the tumultuous social, cultural and political events and changes going on in the UK. After numerous international hits and tours in the 70's & 80's, Black Slate went on a lengthy hiatus. The band re-emerged strong in 2014 with their appearance at the internationally renowned Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (SNWMF) in California to wide acclaim and reviews. They are currently touring their latest album "Peaceful Demonstration" in Europe to the Austin Reggae Festival and the West Coast with all roads leading to Cotati, CA's Redwood Cafe. Original founders Anthony Pure Silk Brightly, Desmond Mahoney, and Chris Music House Hanson with Bassist Colin McNeish and Vocalist Gavin Creary are embarking on Black Slate's latest USA tour!
