BBSU 210: Advanced Brewing Principles
Homebrewing is the heartbeat of the craft beer movement. We are in a cultural renaissance where artisan techniques and small-batch beers are the new wave of one of the worlds oldest industries. In this class, we will be introducing the principles of all-grain brewing through a live demonstration of a batch of homebrew. This class is aimed to help experienced extract brewers move into using an all-grain recipe.
Our 200 level advanced courses offer an in-depth look at specific topics for the advanced beer enthusiast, homebrewer, or beer professional. These 90 min courses led by industry experts will be scheduled at various locations and times, and will run for 3 weeks (2 weeks theory, 1 week hands-on). Beer 101 is not a pre-requisite, though it is recommended.
BBSU 210: Advanced Brewing Principles will be held on Sundays for 3 weeks, beginning April 17th. Week 1 will discuss mashing techniques and water chemistry control while brewing a homebrew on site. Week 2 will cover recipe development, wort aeration, and fermentation control. Week 3 we will also get a chance to enjoy the beer we have made together while discussing flavors, off-flavors, brewing equipment, and next steps to continue to improve your homebrews.
Class is taught by Sean Cooke, Certified Cicerone, BBSU instructor, and current taproom manager at Lake Monster Brewing Co. as well as Jeff Merriman, Certified Cicerone, Regional Retail Mgr. at Northern Brewer who also has his Brewing Science & Engineering degree through American Brewers Guild, and current instructor at Dakota Technical Community College for their Brewing & Beer Steward Technology program.
