On April 21, come enjoy Viva La Sax! as HELLO, SAXOPHONE! KAMMERMUSIK Concert Series celebrates our debut season's finale. This concert of classical and contemporary works by French, Belgian, Argentine, Norwegian & American composers will showcase the saxophone, clarinet and piano in virtuosic splendor.
Your fun begins that night at 7:30pm, at the Unitarian Church in Charleston, with fresh, sax-centric classical chamber music that is sure to make for a sparkling, shimmering evening!
With our highly praised summer 2015 opening concert, Sacred Songs & Modern Dances, and our bold winter follow-up, Country Sax, City Sax, we are establishing HELLO, SAXOPHONE! as a popular and valuable contributor to the vibrant musical life of the Lowcountry region. The series founder and artistic director, Jonathan Kammer, reimagines evenings of classical music in downtown Charleston, and continues to blend classical music with more contemporary and popular styles.
Kammer has created a final program for April 21 that is as hip as it is elegant! Concert-goers to "Viva La Sax!" will get happy to energetic and sensual tangos and polished, glimmering Romantic and Classical works. The audience will groove to some flashy and funky American contemporary classical music, too. Viva La Sax! will inspire and entertain, so come out on April 21, and bring your favorite friends and sax-loving family!
You'll hear Charleston Academy of Music pros Philip Lipton on clarinets and Patrick Boyle on piano, as they join Kammer and Kindall N. Smith on the sanguine and soulful saxes. This rollicking classical crew will lay down the beat as they bring to life the music of Piazzolla, Milhaud, Pascal and Singelée. A large 11-piece saxophone ensemble will close the concert with music of Grieg.
Program:
Darius Milhaud Suite Op. 157b for clarinet, violin and piano; arranged for clarinet, soprano saxophone and piano.
Gregory Wanamaker Duo Sonata for Bb clarient and alto saxophone
Claude Pascal Sonatine for alto saxophone and piano
Astor Piazzolla Tangos, arranged for alto & soprano saxophones, bass clarinet and piano: Etude No. 3, Oblivion, Libertango
Jean-Baptiste Singelee Duo Concertant Op. 55 for soprano & alto saxophones and piano

About us:
Founded in the summer of 2015 by South Carolina-based saxophonist Jonathan Kammer, HELLO, SAXOPHONE! KAMMERMUSIK is a fresh, saxophone-centric classical chamber music concert series. In our 2015-16 debut season, we have produced three chamber music concerts in our hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, and are collaborating with the UNED!TED Concert Series to present in the 2016 Piccolo Spoleto's Spotlight Concert Series. We've taken our music on the road this season as well, performing at the US Navy Band's 2016 International Saxophone Symposium, and bringing our classical saxophone-centered programming to the Starr Ward Chamber Music Series in Florence, SC. Our concerts have received high praise for their exciting programming and engaging performances from musicians and audience members alike from across the nation and across the globe. We consciously present our concerts with a "come as you are," egalitarian approach, with genre-crossing programming that engages our audiences to traverse the connections between classical and contemporary, popular and avant garde. We aim to create and present concerts that are delighting to the senses and uplifting to the intellect and spirit. We strongly believe that doing so will help to build stronger community and more open society.
The second season of HELLO, SAXOPHONE! KAMMERMUSIK Concerts will continue in late summer, with more exciting and unique small ensemble music featuring saxophones and friends creating cutting edge performances!
