With a wink to the past, Modern Vaudeville is a new comedy, variety, music and talk show experience featuring the Twin Cities' top performers. In April, the lineup will include comedian Tommy Thompson, comic-stunt-juggler David Matthew Harris, and musicians Hannah von der Hoff and the Dangertones. The variety show is produced and hosted by Midwest Emmy Award Winning comedian/magician David Harris.
Comedian Tommy Thompson will appear on this show. Tommy has a brand of comedy that is as unique as he is. His emphatic delivery and high energy makes him fun to see time and again. He dishes out the laughs with a distinct style that will make you leave his show feeling exhausted. With Tommy's story telling perspective you will laugh non-stop. He is too funny not too! This young comedian has all the skills to entertain any crowd. Tommy was a finalist in the World Series of Comedy 2010, Invited to the Laughing Skull Comedy Fest 2011, a Semi Finalist in the 2004 Funniest Person in the Twin Cities, and has been seen on Revision 3 TV.
Comic-stunt-juggler David Matthew Harris (a different person from the Modern Vaudeville host - no, really) will also grace the stage. David Matthew Harris has amazed and amused audiences with his physical comedy shows. Using a variety of unconventional props such as sheets of paper, shovels, bicycle wheels and bumbos, David blends acrobatics, comedy, and virtuosic object manipulation. He was selected as an Audience Pick at the 2012 Minnesota Fringe Festival. David has performed his one-man shows and other collaborations at the John Hassler Theater, Walker Art Center, Red Eye Theatre, and many other theaters across the Midwest. His shows include The Pursuit of Awesome, Portrait of the Artist as a Yo-Yo Man, The David Harris Show (with magician David J. Harris), Everything Must Go, and Delivery Guy!
Musician Hannah von der Hoff will round out this show. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Hannah's soulful songs are emotive, dynamic and take a nod from classics. She puts on a show where visceral jazz, blues, R&B and roots influences converge in a way that provoke your gut and excite your senses. Once a lead in the sweaty, heart-pumping party band Sexcat, and a backup singer who toured with Caroline Smith, Hannah is now fully pursuing her songs that she's been incubating for years. She is in pre-preproduction stages of her full-length album. Stay tuned for ways to be involved in pre-purchasing a record!
About Host David Harris: David Harris is a Midwest Emmy Award Winning comedian/magician who entertains across the U.S. for corporate events, colleges, clubs, and more. He has appeared to rave reviews on Minneapolis-St. Paul's ABC, CBS, and FOX TV. Excitingly enough, the Star Tribune Head Theater Critic recently named David's show, "A Keeper," based on a three-minute preview for his appearance at the 2012 Minnesota Fringe Festival. He has scored two Midwest Emmy's for co-producing and co-starring in the comedy TV show, "Nate On Drums," which appeared in 2005-06 on Minneapolis-St. Paul's KSTC.TV, Channel 45. David has also co-starred in several online award winning videos and TV commercials. Plus, he's worked with some of the best in the business including comedy great Louie Anderson, Bobby Slayton, and Mary Lynn Rajskub.
