Idita-Quest: The Adventures of 2016 Yukon Quest Finisher Laura Neese and 2016 Iditarod Musher Ed Stielstra
Natures Kennel is home to the Midwest's most outstanding canine athletes. For the first time in history, a sled dog kennel from the lower 48 states has run both of the worlds toughest, longest sled dog races: The 1000 mile Yukon Quest and the 1000 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. At age 19, Laura Neese has completed her first Yukon Quest and won the Sportsmanship award for her incredible spirit and assistance to other mushers along the trail. Ed Stielstra has run the Iditarod more than any musher in the Midwest and is running his 8th Iditarod this year. Both Ed and Laura race and train out of Natures Kennel in McMillan, Michigan (the Eastern Upper Peninsula). Ed and Laura will share photos and stories of their amazing journeys across Alaska and Canada. A couple canine members of their teams will join the presentation as well so you can meet the amazing Alaskan Huskies.
Ed Stielstra is a Michigan State University Graduate (Lyman-Briggs 1993) and has hosted several tours for the MSU Alumni Association at their business Nature's Kennel in McMillan, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. Ed and Tasha Stielstra are popular speakers from the Educational Outreach roster at Smokin' Sleddog Records, a Michigan-based boutique record label and booking agency. Each year the Stielstras present programs to kids and adults across the country.
