Atelier 5/requisitedance // Show: The Time Falling Bodies Take to Light
What do Pelicans, Go Van Gogh, Kronos, Erick Ocho, the universe, and the sea have in common? "The Time Falling Bodies Take to Light" is a collaborative performance by Bay Area dance companies Atelier 5 of Santa Cruz and requisitedance of San Francisco. Nature and it's effect on human development inspired both works presented by choreographers, Donna Von Joo Tornell and Jenna Monroe.
"The Time of Falling and Flying" is a new work by Donna Von Joo Tornell that explores the inception of the universe as reflected in the flight patterns of pelicans. Go Van Gogh, Yael Naim, and an original work by composer Erick Ocho give lift to this quirky and poignant piece. Mitchell Lang, Jamie Thompson, Jenna Monroe, Kelly Somerville, Erica Freestone, and Aaron Spencer transverse the odd connection between these two seemingly polar ideas.
Set to the strings of Hilder Gudnadottir and the Kronos Quartet, Jenna Monroe's "And Now We Are the Sea," investigates the evolution of our relationship to the sea. Dancer's Brianna Anthony, Tessa Martin, Jenna Monroe, Josh Ornelas, and Michaela Shoberg ebb and flow, circle and rebuild, ultimately being consumed by the beauty of life's source.
