Rory Makem was born in Drogheda, County Louth, about an hour north of Dublin.
He continues the lineage of one of Irish music's dynasties, begun by his grandmother Sarah Makem, who was sought after by song collectors for her store of traditional Irish songs.
His father, Tommy Makem, was the modern day Bard of Armagh. Now considered an icon, he helped to bring Irish music out of the corner and into the international spotlight, where it has remained ever since.
Rory has picked up where his dad left off. Currently, Rory lives in Chicago. He continues to tour with Makem and Spain - a super group who gave a tremendous show for the Ten Pound Fiddle last spring.
For this Monday night gig, we caught him between St. Pat's day tours, and are delighted he will make the drive to East Lansing to lead us in Irish songs at Dublin Square.
Do you love to sing Irish songs? Hope you can be there!
