MAPLE AND VINE
MAPLE AND VINE
by Jordan Harrison / Directed by Mark Lerman
Opening Saturday April 9, 2016 / Regional Premiere

MAPLE AND VINE focuses on yuppie power couple Katha and Ryu. She's an editor at Random House and her Asian American husband is a successful plastic surgeon, but Katha can't get a good night's sleep. When they're invited by a mysterious stranger to join the SDO (Society for Dynamic Obsolescence) they decide to give it all up to pursue more traditional values in the gated community of 1950s reenactors. The play examines the compelling pull of nostalgia and questions our yearning for the "good old days."

The New York Times calls MAPLE AND VINE "Piquantly funny, cleverly executed and darkly playful," and Theatre Louisville says it "Does everything a good play should do...Harrison makes you weigh the costs and benefits of both eras without hitting you over the head with his own conclusion. You will enjoy reaching your own."

Jordan Harrison is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Hodder Fellowship, the Kesselring Prize, the Roe Green Award from Cleveland Play House, the Heideman Award, the Loewe Award for Musical Theater, and a NEA/TCG grant. A graduate of the Brown University M.F.A. program, Harrison is an alumnus of New Dramatists. He currently writes for the Netflix original series, "Orange is the New Black."
