Manitoga's 2016 Resident Artist Peter Bynum leads a special early evening tour featuring Ecstatic Light - a site-specific installation of his illuminated paintings set within the interiors of the House and Studio. Bynum's three-dimensional, illuminated paintings on glass, with their energy and ecstatic beauty, evoke the life-force found in ecosystems throughout nature. Viewing of the installed work will unfold, becoming part of the choreographed whole and intimacy of visiting the site.

IMPORTANT TOUR INFORMATION
Participants meet at Manitoga's Visitor/Guide House next to the parking lot located at 584 Route 9D in Garrison, NY. The guide will arrive just before the tour begins.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A MODERATE HIKE. Tours last 90 minutes and are conducted rain or shine. Please wear sensible walking shoes and dress for weather. Visitors must be able to negotiate uneven ground, several bridge crossings with no handrails and a series of 40 stone steps.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Peter Bynum is known for his light-infused sculptural paintings and large-scale installations. Bynum's work has been exhibited in Rome, Shanghai, Basel, Paris, Cologne, and throughout the U.S. In 2013, New Yorks Museum of Arts & Design commissioned a large, illuminated triptych to feature alongside renowned light artist James Turrell. In 2014, he was commissioned by the New York Public Library to fill its 5th Avenue windows with 17 large-scale illuminated paintings. His most recent installation, commissioned by the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, reinterprets his work into ten massive canvases, each 23 ft. high x 16 ft. wide, for the Hudson riverfront in Peekskill, NY. Peter Bynum received his MFA from New York University. He lives and works in New Yorks Hudson Valley. For additional information about the artist, visit PeterBynum.com .
ABOUT MANITOGA:
Located in Garrison, New York, approximately one hour north of New York City, Manitoga is the House, Studio and 75-acre Woodland Garden of American industrial designer Russel Wright (1904-1976) and one of the few 20th century modern homes and landscapes open to the public in New York State. Manitoga is a National Historic Landmark and an Affiliate Site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
