BLISS ART @BRIGHTON DOME
BLISS ART perform at Brighton Dome in celebration of their 5th Birthday! They have quite a following on the festival circuit both at home and abroad. Their gigs offer easy to listen to yet challenging songs filled with Eastern European sounds from virtuoso pianist Mojca Monti and formidable flautist Jana Cadez Amali plus the usual spicy cheekiness and soaring vocals from Asian songstress Aneesa Chaudhry. Their gigs are full of humour, talent, light zen moments and intense darkness if you allow yourself to take the ride.
BLISS ART's original songs are catchy and easy to listen to. The three songwriters love taking themes that take their fans on a whirlwind of emotions, not holding back from the highs and lows in the stories the songs tell.
Mojca's ability to create different textures of sound with her playing is in itself a masterpiece. Her talent shines through with every note as she brings to life the stories in the music as it captures your heart. Her self penned song 'On The Edge' is bitter sweet with a conversation about life and death with a GP and her song 'Gypsy Woman' is dedicated with a wink in her eye 'To All The Women In My Life'. Her piano playing is flawless, powerful and leaves its imprints on you. She is a virtuoso in her own right.
Jana Cadez Amali's love for the flute simply dances from her fingers and breathe as she makes the most enticing sounds from it. She also plays the Indian flute, the bansuri, in the band's much loved performance of 'Tera Chera'. When the band play this song, the room stops breathing, afraid to miss even a second of the moment they are in. She bends the notes bringing fully to life the Indian instrument. Her original songs are compelling and deep. The rhythms and melodies in 'You', Hold On' and 'Tango Crush' carry the lyrics like a bird on a flight with every ounce of it's heart.
Aneesa Chaudhry is a vocalist and cheeky performer with a rare quality that is worth coming out to listen to. She brushes off her ability to swoop from the ethereal high to a low timbre of low that few women can reach. Her original songs Its Alright, 'Guappa Chica', 'Sappho's Bossom' are fun yet clever and full of vocal improvisation and vocal percussion. Chaudhry is a force of nature and a force to be reckoned with. Her voice is extraordinary in so many senses, range, tone, style, proving that this is not simply a voice of fashion, but a real voice full of real musical talent and skill weapon quality!
BLISS ART's Eastern flavours includes both the Asian element and the Eastern European element, gypsy sounds and songs with a 'melos' that conjures up the heart beat of their music. They perform songs in Slovenian, Croatian, Urdu, English and a dash of Spanish which Chaudhry loves trying to get her tongue around. She is always ready for a proper vocal work out to get her lips and tongue moving around the vowel-less words!
