More Like Laurie
Solo Performance Art is one of the most popular forms of theater today. Amazing worlds and unusual perspectives are offered to audiences who become an integral part of these intimate performances. More Like Laurie presents individual monlogues by four soloists who embody an entire cast of characters and project their unique perspective on the world for twenty minutes each. The result is an hour and half that feels like a mythical journey to many lands guided by these gifted performers.
STEVE CAPASSO loves "creating complex characters and stories that have substance. Good vs. evil is a theme to return to again and again." For the Fringe Festival, Steven explores mercy and redemption through the character of Joey Cumba, a wise guy grieving for his late son. While carrying out a hit, he saves a woman from committing suicide. The resulting friendship leads Joey to make the most important decision of his life.
LAURIE GUERIN will perform a standalone excerpt from her solo show You Are Here. You Are Here is a humorous look at relationships that develop between perfect strangers on an airplane where "The only place to be is here and now'' and the lasting impact they leave on each other's lives.
RICK KUHN has written and performed five solo shows in the last two years. His themes concern love, obsession, and redemption. His sixth solo to be created for the Santa Cruz Fringe Festival explores grief, blame, guilt, and forgiveness.
ALEX MERCEDES' stage work contemplates the human condition from the perspective of an inquisitive, philosophical AmericanAfrican female. Her compelling stage presence is a mixture of grace and candor. She is an engaging, natural storyteller who employs first person narrative to invite and challenge audiences to "take a closer look" and "hang out in notknowing."
