Two acclaimed composer-performers take the stage at Spectrum NYC to present an evening of music old and new that explores deep, interpersonal experiences.
Using a unique combination of sounds that include viola, piano, theremin, and countertenor, Brahms's "Two Songs" and Debussy's "Chansons de Bilitis" will be re-imagined alongside Steven Burke's beautifully expressive "Cradle Song", Meyer's "Seasons of Basho", and the world premiere of Warshaw's "Ballade" to express private moments between woman and herself, mother and child, and lover to lover.
Joining as guest performer is the exquisitely versatile countertenor Nicholas Tamagna.
The Pipeline Collective was founded on the concept that when musicians perform their own music, sounds flow through them more easily, making them better performers. Likewise, when composers perform more often, they evolve into better writers. These concerts are meant to give a voice to those showcasing their craft as creators and performers regardless of genre or given labels.
Composers like Beethoven never referred to their music as "classical" or by some other term - it was just "my music". This is our music, and it belongs to everyone regardless of age, background or profession.
