Growing gourmet mushrooms in your yard and garden
Description: During this hands-on workshop instructor Dan Bensonoff will share the techniques necessary to grow edible mushrooms in your landscape, whether it be a vegetable garden, orchard or forest. Dan will discuss and demonstrate companion planting with fungi, shiitake log cultivation and explore how to make use of waste materials and neglected spaces through mushroom cultivation. This workshop will primarily focus on Stropharia (Wine Cap) and Shiitake mushrooms, but the techniques participants will learn can be applied to a number of species.
About the Instructor:
Dan Bensonoff is a devoted foodie, farmer, and educator. He began his mycelial adventures as a child when he would go foraging with his grandparents. The beauty of mushrooms eventually led him to try his hand at cultivation. Currently, he lives in Jamaica Plain and works as assistant grower at Newton Community Farm and Policy Director with NOFA/Mass.
Scholarships are available for new farmers (those growing 10 or less years) who are active NOFA/Mass members. To apply please clickhere.
