The Whiskey Scout Presents: Chapter One: The Modern Local's Fifth Anniversary Whiskey Dinner
Chapter One: The Modern Local celebrates five years with a pairing dinner unlike any other.
Experience rare whiskeys that are unavailable in California, brand new, difficult to come by, or never available for sale.
Full spirits list to come shortly.
First course:
FEW Spirits Family Reserve- this malt will never be sold and is only given as a gift to friends of distiller Paul Hletko. This is a once in a lifetime sip.
Paired with: shaved pickled veggies & shrimp salad
Second Course:
High West Double Rye- Double Rye! DR! is a blend of two ryes (hence double rye). Combines a high rye 2-year-old and a saddle smooth 16-year-old. The younger rye has a mashbill with 95% rye/5% barley malt and the older has a more typical rye mashbill with 53% rye and 37% corn. The extra age and increased corn adds just enough caramel sweetness and woody vanilla richness to calm the bite of the younger rye.

High West Yippee Ki-yay Is DR! finished in Oak barrels that previously held Vermouth Barrel (Vya, Madera, CA), and Oak barrels that previously held Qupé Syrah (Qupé Santa maria, CA). Sweeter, jammier. Very Manhattan-esque.
Paired with: duck rillette with pickled onions and toast points
Third Course:
A rye surprise!
Paired with: bbq king salmon with ratatouille, parsnip and red cabbage puree
Fourth Course:
Sonoma County Distilling- info TBD
Paired with: deep fried short ribs with baby veggies and big-ass beans
Fifth Course:
Manhattan Moonshine- This easy drinking moonshine is not yet available in California, so experience it before your friends by joining us at our dinner!
