Caught up in romantic fantasies, Hagit, a luminous young woman with a mild mental disability, thirsts for the love of her coworker at the toilet paper factory, dreaming of their life together. Her divorced mother Sara, longs to protect her from the pain of a harsh world and tries to limit her independence. Their daily cat-and-mouse turns frantic when Hagit is late. At what point does protection become deprivation, no matter how well-intentioned? Shot against the amber light of the Negev Desert, this beautiful film stars Rosenblatt (Winner Best Actress Ophir 2015) in a heartbreaking but never sentimental performance as the daughter, and Levy as her wary mother who is also starved for affection. Wedding Doll is an emotionally intense, thought-provoking film that explores prejudice, the need for human connection, and the punishing sacrifices that a daughter and mother must both make.
