International Women's History Month - Movie Screening and Reception
The Brazilian Cultural Center of Chicago and Gingarte Capoeira Chicago invite you to a movie screening of The Summer of Gods in celebration of International Women's History Month. This event includes an exciting audience discussions, performances, and dinner reception with award-winner and filmmaker Eliciana Nascimento.

The Summer of Gods is a short film about a young girl named Lili who unites with her Afro-Brazilian religious ancestry on a summer visit with family to their ancestral village in rural Brazil. During her stay, she encounters Orishas (African gods) who help her find peace with a gift that has previously vexed her. The film is set in the Northeast of Brazil where Afro-Brazilian religious traditions remain strong.

Ms. Nascimento holds an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in Cinema from San Francisco State University. Before traveling to the United States to attend graduate school, she founded an independent production company in Brazil called Candace Cine Video and co-produced the documentary Rhythmic Uprising. Her short film The Summer of Gods premiered at Cannes Film Festival and won five awards so far, including three of best picture. With this movie, she reveals the beauty, culture, and mythology of her people. Her hope is that it will encourage the preservation of Orishas traditions by inspiring viewers to honor them and learn more.
