MJFF - The Green Park: Tales From a Jewish Hotel 3-15 PMA
TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE AT THE PMA AT 12:30 ON TUESDAY.
Documentary / Dir: Justin Hardy / 2015 UK / English / 65 min
Downton Abbey meets the Catskills. In post-war Britain, the height of holiday fashion for Jews was the Bournemouth seaside kosher hotel The Green Park. Gourmet food was plentiful, jewels flashed, wives danced with hired gigolos while their husbands played cards, and American GIs celebrated Passover. Matches were made ensuring the continuity of Anglo-Jewish life. Major events were often marked there, milestones in the lives of both the owners and their patrons. Forged through the melding of interviews, archival footage and reenactments, the story of Green Parks founding by the son of furriers to its glorious heyday is nothing less than a capsule history of Jews in Britain.
