INTERNET JUNKIE: Feature Film Screening
Directed by Alexander Katzowicz Lead Cast: Antonio Birabent, Ángela Molina, Arturo Ripstein Mexico, Argentina, Israel / 2015 / 92mins / US Premiere
Many stories happen simultaneously on the Internet. In the real world, so-called cybernauts are lonely, isolated, and desperate to find love, friendship and tenderness. They project themselves as superheroes, with an infinite number of friends and a hyperactive sex life. They live asphyxiated in front of their computers, unable to live with the people that surround them, exasperated trying to find a pinch of love in the fantasy of the net. Outside the virtual world, they do not exist.
Shot in the three countries, Katzowiczs opera prima develops five stories of techno-dependency, in one of which celebrated Mexican director Arturo Ripstein and Spains Angela Molina play down on their uppers grandparents living in a senior citizen home where Molinas character attempts to prise the TV remote control away from her husband. Other four tales also depict chronic cases of digital dependency in a world where, per Katzowicz, quoted by Cinestel, many people are totally addicte, depending on devices for everything love, friendship, relations and in their physical relationship live isolated between fourwalls in a dark place.
