The Sorcerer
Troupers presents Gillbert and Sullivan's romantic comic operetta, "The Sorcerer," for 4 performances only, with full orchestra, sets and costumes.
Young Alexis is about to become engaged to the lovely Aline, and he feels that everyone should be as in love as they are. He summons a sorcerer, John Wellington Wells, to provide a love potion to spike the engagement party tea.
Needless to say, everyone falls in love with the "wrong person," across age and social class, and it takes a lot of doing, and all the second act to restore everyone to their rightful partners. [;oh, and only unmarried people are affected.];
The Sorcerer contains some of Sullivan's brightest music, including a double chorus, and an Act I Finale quite reminiscent of Donizetti, considering that The Sorcerer spoofs Donizettis' "The Elixir of Love."
