Comedy Returns to El Rio! (Mon, June 11) - Gay Comedy Night
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents...
Comedy Returns to El Rio! - Gay Comedy Night

Now in its 4th year, this popular monthly (every 2nd Monday of the month) comedy show features the best of Bay Area comedians and beyond. The show takes place at El Rio in The Mission District as that is where San Francisco comedian and comedy producer, Lisa Geduldig (Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Funny Girlz), began her stand up comedy career 23 years ago.

Geduldig strives to produce diverse, inclusive comedy shows with the variety of shows she produces throughout the year.

The June 11th El Rio show will be a Gay Comedy Night (because it's June, and it's the law) and features: Karen Ripley (35-year comedy veteran), LA-based Scott Silverman (Comedy Central, LOGO), Pippi Lovestocking (drag luminary), Bob McIntyre (25+ year restaurant worker), Yuri Kagan (hails from a Russian immigrant family), and hostess Lisa Geduldig.

KAREN RIPLEY is a queer comic and improv master, has been featured on LOGO TV's "Wisecracks." Her comedy comes from her life experiences, from the "bluest lesbian jokes" to the most thought provoking political insights. Her laid back style will relax and then surprise with a one liner that will cause your head to fly back and your mouth will open. Intense sounds of laughter will rise up from your diaphragm and you will be loaded with endorphins. Effects have been known to last for days. And when you repeat Karen's jokes to your friends the effects start all over again. She began her comedy career in 1977 (35 years ago!) in the heyday of the LGBT comedy movement in San Francisco and now appears regularly at clubs, colleges, cruises, and festivals around the country.

SCOTT SILVERMAN, born and raised in Los Angeles, avoided show business and was on a course to a career as an automotive in his homeland, but "did a 180" and moved to San Francisco to become a stand up comic. He has appeared on several TV shows, including Comedy Central's "Out There 2" A&E's "An Evening at The Improv, and LOGO's "Wisecrack" Comedy Series. He has performed at the Montreal "Just for Laugh's Festival and was a finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition. He has been to all 50 states, Canada and Australia to perform in colleges, clubs, and on tours and festivals. Scott has opened for several of Margaret Cho's sold out theater tours. www.thescottsilverman.com

PIPPI LOVESTOCKING, the drag persona of actor Scot Free, is a staple on the Bay Area comedy scene. In 1996 Pippi and drag buddy, Heklina, started the infamous club Trannyshack at the Stud. The club continues to this day managed exclusively by Heklina. Scot/Pippi has numerous film credits as well as many appearances on Japanese TV. Pippi has also appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on Last Comic Standing.

BOB MCINTYRE was born a coal miner's daughter in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Hollow. At the age of 13, he got his first job as a waiter at the local BINGO hall where he learned the skills that would carry him through an additional 25 years of various restaurant jobs in a variety of establishments that would never be referred to as "fine dining." Along the way he performed some comedy here and there but not in a lot of other places. Bob's returned to comedy last year after a 5-year hiatus. His cat weighs 19 pounds, 1/5 of Bob's own weight.

YURI KAGAN is a dry-humor, observational, dead-pan comedian and that's what it says on the JDate profile his mother created for him. He performs all over the Bay Area where he talks about growing up in a Russian-Jewish family, being gay and a cynic. Yuri is also Co-Producer of a successful touring comedy show called, "Recovering Commies" and is an avid blogger. www.YuriKagan.com

LISA GEDULDIG is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy: Jewish comedy in Christmas in a Chinese Restaurant (now in its 20th year); The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Cafe con Comedy; Charo... She is also a bilingual (Spanish-English) arts publicist and budding filmmaker.

Must be over 21 as it's a bar.  Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
