Thornapple Arts Council Comedy Show
Opening Act: Joe Williams

Feature Act: Nardos Osterhart

Headliner: Floyd J. Phillips

The Thornapple Arts Council will host its first Comedy Night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Leason Sharpe Hall of the Barry Community Enrichment Center. The evening will feature local and regional comedians to help people laugh away their winter blues.

The show's headlining act will be Grand Rapids-area comedian Floyd J. Phillips. Through comedy, Phillips has gone from the mean streets of Chicago as one of five children raised by a single mom to winning the Seattle Comedy Competition in 2000. He is currently an internationally-touring comedian, and he was a finalist in the 2001 San Francisco Comedy Competition, as well as the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival winner. Whether it is entertaining troops overseas, audiences on cruise ships or corporate events, comedy clubs or casinos, Phillips brings his unique and hilarious style to the stage.

The show's feature act will be Nardos Osterhart, an Ethiopian-born comedian who moved to the United States as a political refugee when she was five. She is currently the married mother of two daughters and a rising star in the world of comedy. Originally trying stand-up comedy to overcome her public speaking fears in her day job as a nurse, Osterhart has quickly climbed the ranks in the local comedy scene, winning first place in the 2013 Funniest Person in Grand Rapids competition. She will premiere her own one-woman show, "Halfrican: A Night of Comedy with Nardos Osterhart," only a week before the Thornapple Arts Council Comedy show, on Feb. 20, at the Wealthy Theater in Grand Rapids.

Tickets will be $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Those who bring art supplies for the Thornapple Arts Council Art Pantry will also be entered to win a gift basket that evening. For a list of what is needed for the Art Pantry, visit thornapplearts.org.

Cash bar available. This event is for adults only.
