Takoma Park Radio Art and Artifacts Auction
Buy art. Build radio.

Celebrate local artists and support your community radio station, Takoma Radio. On March 5th, we are hosting an auction of art and artifacts from local artists, collectors and neighbors, featuring but not limited to: a series of 6 drumming lessons, a wooden Native American flute, your own spot at a Tiny Desk Concert as Bob Boilen's guest, your own spot in the studio at All Things Considered, paintings and drawings from local artists, and more!

The evening will also feature the blues harmonica of DC native Phil Wiggins, whose style is rooted in the melodic Piedmont or Tidewater blues of the Chesapeake region. Delicious food and drink will be for sale.

As a non-commercial radio station set to broadcast on 94.3 FM this spring, Takoma Radio relies on your support to pay for rent, equipment, engineering, audio production training, and other operational costs.

About us

In March 2015, Historic Takoma announced that its project, Takoma Radio, will move forward as WOWD-LP broadcasting in a 2-5 mile radius of Takoma at 94.3FM. We have a unique and vibrant community that craves a real time voice. Our coverage area is a multi-jurisdictional international crossroads, including neighborhoods in NE and NW DC, and MoCo and PG. We expect to be on the air in the summer of 2016, providing a hyper-local FM radio alternative to tens of thousands of listeners.

The programming will be by, for, and about people of all ages, types and backgrounds, representing the diverse population of our listening area. A source of live local information presented by live local people, we will share stories and music. We will frame and inform the present by including archival sounds and stories from Historic Takoma and other local audio collections. As a community, we are established, new. urban, suburban, black, white, Latino, African, Asian, European, West Indian, rich, poor, young, old.
