Truth Be Told is our host for the Story Slam:
Got a Story to Tell? Calling all Sangha raconteurs -- Old Dogs and New Tricks alike:
This is your moment! Let your voice be heard! Come tell your tale in what has been called "the Olympiad of Storytelling."
Truth Be Told, Boulder's beloved story slam, is teaming up with the Boulder Shambhala Center to offer you a special edition Shambhala Day Story Slam for the greater Sangha.
Here's how it works: We give you the theme. You bring the story. Five minutes tops. Must be true. Told by heart. The theme for the Shambhala Day slam is "NOT AFRAID TO BE A FOOL."
We'd especially like to invite stories that have a connection with Dorje Dzong extra points if your "fool" story actually takes place inside our beautiful building!
What is a story slam?
A slam is a storytelling competition in which audience members put their names in a hat with the hopes of being selected to tell their 5-minute, true story based on a pre-determined theme. The winner will be determined by secret ballot.
Between stories, co-hosts Nina Rolle and Johanna Walker, along with an ever-changing roster of local musicians (with their ever-changing band names) perform song medleys and one-line stories based on the evening's theme, creating a one-of-a-kind event. Musical guests for the Shambhala Day slam include James Thorpe, Dave Willey, and more.
We look forward to a fantastic night of sangha storytelling!
Nina Rolle is a voiceover actor and musician known for her original, award-winning show, ZEN CABARET: a contemplative burlesque. Johanna Walker, founder of GET REAL Public Speaking, is a speaker and coach who helps entrepreneurs find the best stories to convey the message of their business.
