JCC Chicago Jewish Film Festival - Felix & Meira
The winner of Best Feature Film at the Toronto Film Festival, Félix and Meira is a cross-cultural love story about a woman who questions her faith and develops a relationship with a secular man.
The film, which was Canada's foreign-language Oscar submission, focuses on Meira (Hadas Yaron), a young Hasidic housewife and mother, and Félix (Martin Dubreuil), a man lost in mourning the recent death of his father. They unexpectedly meet at a local bakery in Montreal's Mile End district and what starts as an innocent friendship becomes more intimate. As the two wayward strangers find comfort in one another, Felix opens Meira's eyes to the world outside of her tight-knit Orthodox community. Ultimately she is forced to choose: remain in the life that she has always known or give it all up to be with Félix.
