The Reckoning, Pecora For The Public by Neil Thomas Proto -- World Premiere! presented by The Repertory Collective
The Repertory Collective confront the Banksters of Wall Street in the world premiere one-man play The Reckoning, Pecora For The Public written by Neil Thomas Proto, directed by Arne Zaslove and starring Bob DeDea. This new play for the 99% immortalizes Italian-American Ferdinand Pecora's valiant effort to expose the malignant and deceptive practices of Wall Street's most elite financiers and bankers including JP Morgan Jr., based on actual transcripts from the 1933 United States Senate Banking Committee hearings to determine the root causes of the 1929 stock market crash.

Pecora's findings put him on the cover of Time magazine and directly led Congress to pass the Securities Act of 1933 to set penalties for filing false stock information, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 forming the SEC to regulate the stock exchanges and the Glass-Steagall Banking Act of 1933 to separate commercial and investment banking. Today many financial analysts point to the repeal of Glass-Steagall in 1999 as one of the contributing factors to the most recent US financial crisis of 2008. Pecora's name re-emerged in 2009 on PBS, in the New York Times, Vanity Fair and other national media outlets as a galvanizing icon whose story merited re-visiting to  understand the true origins of the 2008 financial collapse and its widespread harm to the nation.
